how to play 1080i in 720p?

i have 1080i camcorder. and 720p hdtv...

when i try to output to my hdtv using hdmi, it just give me black screen, but the tv detected the camcorder...

The TV automatically detects the input video format and scales it as needed to its native resolution.

Make sure the Camcorder outpus video from the HDMI port.
(You may need to change the video output settings of your camcorder)
