I don't know how felix knows it was non toxic. Some markers are. Chances are it was not, but do you have any other markers of the same type so that you can bring one with you to the vet to show him/her exactly what it was that your dog ate? Your dog might have trouble getting it through her digestive tract because markers are long and not very flexible. The vet should be able to get it out without too much trouble...bring her there today.

Check the label of the pack that the red marker came in, or if you have other similar markers, you can check them to see if it says non-toxic or not. Most markers are non-toxic because children and babies will easily chew on them. However, if you are worried, go to the vet and ask about it.

Many dogs go through this stage. I would make sure everything she ingests comes out of her. If it doesn't pass naturally in 3-4 days take her to a vet. The marker should not be toxic to her. Perforations of the lining of her stomach, intestines, and other internal parts are the main concern.

Well, this sort of depends on the brand of marker. If it's a Crayola kids marker, probably no problem at all. I remember as a child my weenie dog ate one of those red felt tipped pens... he had no problem. (but it scared us to death! we thought he was bleeding! lol!) Now if it's a permenant marker, I would call a vet just to ask to make yourself feel better. If the dog shows any adverse reaction, change in behavior, best to take her first, talk to the vet when you get there! Good luck!

It depends on what kind of red marker. If it is a sharpie then it might. If it was a crayola or any kind of washable school marker, then most of those are not toxic. If you really want to know, I think you should ask your vet. They would know for sure.

You can never assume something is non-toxic! Call the animal poison control center at (they will charge you for the call):

"(888) 426-4435. A $55 consultation fee may be applied to your credit card"

or

K-State's College of Veterinary Medicine has a free, 24-hour animal poison control hotline at 785-532-5679

Good luck! Since I have a bunch of cats I basically child-proof my house and keep the following in drawers and carefully stored:

rubber bands, paper clips, push pins, thumb tacks, all cleaning supplies, all prescriptions, plastics like baggies (my cat loves to plastic for some weird reason), twist ties, etc.

Good luck!

No it's not toxic, in fact most markers are labeled "non-toxic". I had a dog that ate a blue crayon used for marking tires. Didn't hurt her, but we certainly had some special looking piles for the next few days!

Markers are usually non-toxic. I'd be more concerned if she swallowed any sharp pieces of plastic that can cause a bowel perforation or an obstruction. Watch her and if she shows any signs of abdominal pain or distress, go to a vet right away.

Obviously, it depends on the chemicals contained in the marker; some are probably toxic, others not. Check with retailer.
