I'm trying to hook up my xbox360 and dvd player to my receiver. I have them connected to my hdtv thru hdmi cables. Could I then hook my receiver to the spdif out on the tv, instead of running optical cables from the xbox and dvd to the receiver? Is it the same either way or is there signal loss?

Thanks!

That will work fine as long as the TV translates DD in to DD out (and I cannot imagine why it would not.)

But I think it will be 5.1 not 6.1.

Hook it up and look at your receiver. Mine usually tells me if the input is PCM (like from a CD player) or DD or DTS.
