I have learned to respect the beliefs of some people more and the beliefs of some people less. I have had my own atheistic / agnostic beliefs confirmed as the most rational, ethical, and logical choice. I am realizing that the ongoing argument will never be resolved. I still consider Christian and Islamic fundamentalism to be unethical and dangerous. I can't prove it, but I'm pretty sure that most of my violations and account suspensions have originated from these people's hypocritical desire for revenge. I have never reported anyone for anything and I consider that a childish reaction to insults, sarcasm, or ridicule which I do use as I think that too many people take their opinions too seriously and are incapable of laughing at them selves. Humor is not a sin and if one lacks a sense of humor they are missing out on one of the best aspects of this often dreary and miserable life. I truly believe that people report others because they are incapable of refuting them with an argument that supports their position. If people hold a position that is so weak and vulnerable then perhaps they should consider changing it or at least learning more about it so that they can defend it when it comes under attack.

yes, I have learned a bit about all sides...I've learned there are nice people who choose to believe in something and that there are nice people who choose not to.
I've learned that there are mean, insulting people on BOTH sides as well.
I can be both at times, I realize.
I consider myself an agnostic. I have the capacity to believe, but right now, I'd consider life on another planet before anything else...
I resent it when religious people put down those not of their ilk. Do they do it to make themselves feel better with their own choices?
I'm sure that the same goes for you believers. You don't like being messed with either.
It bums me out to read the distressing notes from those who are so depressed over their worthless lives, while at the same time state that they have been praying and ask that others pray for them....As if their lives are hold until god decides to help them!!!
Is this the kind of faith and trust that they have in their God? If they know that "god" is looking over his flock, why all the depression and distress?

I haven't been here long enough to really learn anything new about differing beliefs. I have learned that most people need lessons on manners and etiquette.
It's bothersome to read so many answers that ridicule instead of truly answering the question asked. I've also read a great deal of questions that are more accusatory than a real question. It's been an eye opener for sure!

This may sound crass but I no longer care about "beliefs"
What I have seen here is in the past I looked at a label and my thought on it and applied it to that person.
I no longer do that and so I find that very enlightening.
I knew a lot about beliefs before coming here, as I have studied a lot in the past.
Hmm maybe I learned more about how even within the same "belief" system we are so very individual.

Yes, I really have. Of course you have to learn how to weed through the trash to find the treasure, lol! There are tons of knowledgable people here (unfortunately tons more ignorant ones), and I've really learned a lot of things from them. And I hope I've been a benefit to others as well.

As for your question, I am not very religious but I love reading answers from anyone who is willing to throw there views out there, I have learned a ton. However I see too many people who are not accepting of others views, they can be kind of mean about it

I've learned a lot. I've been debating theists for many years, usually on more highbrow forums than this, and I'd formed the impression that it would be possible to come to a civilised relationship with them in time.
But having seen what I have in this place, I realise that there's no hope of reasoning with these people.

Yes - ever so much... I have learned about a number of religions I wasn't aware of and have found so many that I can agree with their lines of thought.
More importantly, I have learned other opinions that have me questioning my own beliefs - not the beliefs themselves, but WHY I have them. I think it important to reevaluate our thoughts and beliefs often so that we can find truth in our faiths.

Gorgeous,
Although you and I do not agree on many things we do believe that all people should be allowed their own religious freedom to worship as they please and not be attacked by others. That is one thing that has made me appreciate you the most! I have met some of the most brilliant people on the face of the earth from all religious and non-religious backgrounds. Have a wonderful week!!
Thanks,
Eds
Joe,
I am actually a Fundamental Christian but you won't see me pushing my views on others. Thanks...
