Jimmie is certainly favored to win. I just hope the race is exciting today.

Take Jimmie Johnson (+455), 1/6th unit. This week, the Smokeless Set heads to Atlanta, which is a very close parallel to Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte. Johnson, of course, completely dominates Charlotte (and has the best finishing average on the Alanta/Charlotte/Texas track style over the last three and six seasons). Johnson also won here in Atlanta back in March, and finished second in the Atlanta race last fall, on his way to his first points title. For sure, J.J. is points racing from here on in, dueling with his teammate Jeff Gordon (+660) for the '07 championship, but the best way to stay out of trouble at a super-fast unrestricted place like Atlanta is get out front and stay there.

Take Tony Stewart (+814), 1/6th unit. Smoke has to be disappointed in his Chase, as he's almost certainly not going to win his third points title. But he won this event last fall, and has only failed to finish in the top 10 in Atlanta once the last 12 times he's raced here. So you know he's going to be near the front, and you have to believe Stewart will worry less about points than the Hendrick guys when push comes to shove. He'll want to win this race, and I give him a decent chance to do so.

Take Carl Edwards (+1021), 1/6th unit. It's probably wishful thinking that Edwards can win this event after all the negative publicity surrounding him after a post-race incident with his teammate Matt Kenseth (+1021). After Martinsville, Edwards interrupted an interview Kenseth was doing to confront him about something that happened between them on the track, and Edwards mock-punched Kenseth, whereupon Kenseth flinched as though he assumed, "Yeah, this *** could actually punch me in the face." (You can see the video right here.) No doubt, King Carl will have a lot of 'splaining to do at Atlanta this week, and some of the veneer has definitely come off his pristine image. But remember also that Edwards has the second-best finishing average on this track style over the last three seasons, and he's won twice at Atlanta. I think these odds are tasty, on the off chance Edwards turns around and wins a race to prove everyone wrong about him.

I agree that JJ is going to win. He needs this day to pass Jeff and if he leads laps and wins he should get the points that he needs to pass Jeff.

The way the DEI cars are performing today, it is hard to bet against them. My pick is Jr. He is long overdue and he won't let Truex take it without a fight.
