Do pensioners still pay council tax in England?

Yes they do, just like anybody else over 18. However, if they can prove low savings, investments and income, they can benefit from a council tax benefit award that may well be up to 100% of their charge. Age doesn't really come into it, except for pensioner premiums in their benefit claim. There is also the possibility of single person discounts and disability discounts if they apply. The problem with pensioners and council tax is that so many of them fail to investigate the possibility of a benefit award against their council tax bill and simply just pay it ( or don't as the case may be ... ). So to answer your question, yes they all have to pay unless they can prove otherwise by the above. And we need more resources to let them know that!

Council tax for pensioners?
Do pensioners still pay council tax in England?

The only time where they will not have to pay is if they are in receipt of pension credit (payable from age of 60)or have severe mental/learning/physical disabilities

They can apply for council tax benefit which may meet all or some of the council tax liability.....it depends on their income and savings

Oh yes, very much so. As usual tho, if you have saved to buy your own house, and worked a full-working life til 64..you`ll pay the full whack. (in this country, as a general rule, the harder you work and the more you try and save, the more you will pay - for many things.
If you want figures, here they are:
Full whack for married pensioners (in my area) £935.
If your partner dies, discount for single tenancy: £233.
I am 74 (possibly one of the oldest on here!!) and now a widower, and I pay £701.

Yes usually.
Although some do qualify for grants to cover most/all of it - check with your local council to see if you qualify.

I'm sure they do, they most certainly pay it in Scotland. Time it was scrapped & local income tax instead.
