I made a mistake by freezing a packet of six Gammon steaks. I usually split them into three two's. Question is, can you cook them and re-freeze them. If you can, how would they be cooked next time they are de-frosted?.

Thank you Dumpling, JP, William W and A Nonny Mouse for your advice. Problem is, I have two conflicting answers ( I don't mean that in an ungrateful way) William W suggests defrost before re-cooking and A Nonny mouse suggests cook from frozen. I t leaves me in a bit of a dilemma

If you thaw them in the refrigerator you can re-freeze them raw, as long as you do it immediately. If you freeze them precooked, recook them by wrapping in foil and placing in the oven at about 375º for about 10 or 15 minutes, like a TV dinner.

frozen food can be re-frozen but only after it's been cooked first...the exception to this is bread.

...do not defrost first re-heat them while frozen.....I suggest the oven as a microwave could make them rubbery....
