Im off to LA in the next few weeks. Im off on business and im 19. I've found a company willing to hire a car to myself and my collegue but they were a little vague about the whole procedure. Both of us have full UK licences' but will they provide insurance, if not, how should we go about this?

The only cars i've ever driven were my own or leased via work so i'm a little unsure of the norm!

Note: The company willing to hire to us is EZ car rental.

Yes, the car rental company will charge you extra and furnish you with insurance.

Mobilemark came across sounding a little snotty. Angelenos are sophisticated enough to know what you mean by "car hire." especially at the "car rental" agencies. We even think it's cute.

Ask the "rental'" agency for a copy of the contract. read it carefully. You may have to pay extra being under 25. And read up on renting a car of some of the money sites, to learn what to look out for when renting a car.

Also, invest in a map or two. Do not rely solely on someone directors or map quest, both notoriously unreliable.

Relax and have a good time.

Have fun and enjoy

hummmm, If you are hiring a car, I'm guessing you're probably used to driving on the "wrong" side of the road, so especially in L.A. I would get plenty of insurance from the car rental place which usually offers it to you..

in the US we say car rental not car hire (to us that means
a chauffeur (someone who would we hire to drive the car)
if you talk with and used the words car hire thats probably
why they were vague with you
you can rent the car and they will ask you if you want
insurance (it will cost extra) but check with your credit
card company sometimes they will provide insurance on
car rentals
