Prednisone is a corticosteroid (glucocorticoid) which does not affect the function of the gonades.
Remeber steroid cross-cell membranes and bind to cytoplasmic/nuclear receptors in target cells that contain these recptors, cells of the testis DO NOT have receptor for corticosteroids, these are NOT androgens
Side effects, in LONG-TERM USE!!! may be:
1. Decreased immunity and increased risk of infection
2. Hyperglycemia
3. Osteoporosis
4. Cataract formation
4. Glaucoma
5. Euphoria
NO effect on gonades, corticosteroid DO NOT have androgenic affects. Also the above side-effects manifest only after LONG-TERM USE. So if you need the drug for three days only, you should not have to much problems.
Bottom line: You should not have any adverse sexual/gonadal problems from prednisone or any other glucocorticoid-type drug!!

A steroid is any chemical that has a certain structure. Testosterone, prednisone, even cholesterol, and many more chemicals, are all steroids.
From what I understand, prednisone acts on the immune system, so it should have no effect on your sperm. What you are thinking of are "roids" or anabolic steroids, synthetic hormones that athletes use to bulk up (and which other people legitimately use for hormone deficiencies). This type of steroid is only a fraction of all of the steroid chemicals out there.

It's a steroid, but a glucocorticoid type steroid, not an anabolic steroid. It would be nice if people didn't bandy about terms like "steroid" so freely, but that isn't the world we live in. If anything, you may get a little feeling of euphoria as a side-effect and be able to enjoy even more than normal your unaffected sperm count the night before surgery.

Prednisone taken short term won't make you sterile. yet ascertain to stay with instructions for petering out if the surgeon tells you to. I knew somebody who were on prednisone for greater or less six months. Then she had surgical technique and the well being care expert stated to quit taking it because of the fact she didn't want it anymore. After she surpassed out (and normally felt like she grow to be loss of life) she went to her kinfolk surgeon who relatively stated surgeons are unwell-recommended approximately drugs, and a 4-6 week tapering era grow to be mandatory. After basically 3 days that's okay to basically quit, yet verify with a pharmacist or a doctor who isn't a well being care expert.

No it won't.
Side effects of prednisone and other corticosteroids range from mild annoyances to serious, irreversible damage, and they occur more frequently with higher doses and more prolonged treatment. Side effects include retention of sodium (salt) and fluid, weight gain, high blood pressure, loss of potassium, headache and muscle weakness. Prednisone also causes puffiness of the face (moon face), growth of facial hair, thinning and easy bruising of the skin, impaired wound healing, glaucoma, cataracts, ulcers in the stomach and duodenum, worsening of diabetes, irregular menses, rounding of the upper back ("buffalo hump"), obesity, retardation of growth in children, convulsions, and psychiatric disturbances. The psychiatric disturbances include depression, euphoria, insomnia, mood swings, personality changes, and even psychotic behavior.

i have been on Prednisone for years. I don't think it lowers the sperm count. I know it can make you hungry. Take care.

Taking prednisone for 3 days won't harm you. It might make you face swell but that's all.

short term use will not affect your sperm count. you might be referring to androgen and testosterone type steroids. this is a corticosteroid- different type of steroid. it's usually taken for anti-inflammatory problems in lungs, muscles, or allergic reactions or to prevent an allergic reaction. no it will not make you sterile. you will be fine. good luck with your surgery.
