Because most modern "Christians" don't need no book lernin'. They have the preacher man to tell them what to believe.
If more "Christians" actually read & lived the scriptures, they would attract more people to their churches. I don't attend church because I can't stand most of the people that attend church.
Ghandi said it best: "I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ."

Eating the flesh of Christ and drinking his blood is not scriptural. It is only taught by the Catholic church, not by bible teaching Churches.
The Roman Catholic Church denies the pagan origin of its beliefs and practices. The Catholic Church disguises its pagan beliefs under layers of complicated theology. The Catholic Church excuses and denies its pagan origin beneath the mask of “church tradition.” Recognizing that many of its beliefs and practices are utterly foreign to Scripture, the Catholic Church is forced to deny the authority and sufficiency of Scripture.

Though reading the Bible is very important, regardless of how you come to believe, it is by "faith and faith alone" . . . . .
I once knew a man who said he was a Christian and could quote scripture, almost verbatim, but he practiced NONE of what he preached. He "talked the talk" but did not "walk the walk" So the true measure of being a good Christian is not dependant on being a biblical scholar. I read the Bible for my own understanding and nurture, not so I can impress anyone with my ability to memorize various passages.

It is metaphor. The wine represents the grape - earthly produce - the bread is the substance of life - again, earthly produce - this simply honors the flesh of mankind, not necessarily the man himself. There were many religious beliefs that used that ceremony. They were agricultural and respected nature as their life giving substance. Further, flesh is not the way to understand a god, as it is a non-being, rather a spiritual phenomena so it really makes no sense. The idea of seeing it another way is cannibalistic.
That raises an interesting idea about our early ancestors though, as cannibilism was the belief that if you ate another you would inherit their soul or spirit or whatever that belief suggested.

As a Christian I can only speak for my own short comings and say that I do not know that much about the scriptures it is an ongoing process to educate myself so that I can be a more effective witness for Christ.

What Scriptures that Christians do not know about you are referring to? Or you are just poking fun to the real Christian because you can not understand the spiritual meaning of it? Its useless to reason with an unreasonable person. In my 63 years of being a Christian, travelling around the world, attending Christian conferences and conventions, I never hear such kind of teaching inside Christian Churches. Its only you who I believed never had gone inside the Christian fellowships who parrots those same attitude with you. Of course thats your freedom and we Christian respect your human right even though how kind of insanity you are throwing against Bible-centered Christianity.

If you go to church all your life it doesn't mean you are a Christian, if you go all your life but do not read the Bible for yourself you will not learn much. If you don't Pray and live for Christ during the week you will never learn much. Many are called but few are chosen. When Jesus died on the Cross at Calvery he died for your sins and mine. Now to fully understand all that you are going to have to get into the Bible and Pray daily and have a personal relationship with him. If it is not personal then you are lost and on your way to Hell. You will never understand the Bible until you are saved and Born Again and serving Christ daily, Jesus said pick up your Cross and follow me daily. Have you accepted Christ as your Saviour? Have you been Born Again? You can be right now, You can go to the foot of the Cross right now and get salvation, from the Grace of Jesus Christ, just pray this sinners pray believing, Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am sinner in need of salvation. I believe you died on a cross at calvery and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this Prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen. If you prayed this prayer with a sincere heart you are now a child of God, rejoice that your name is written in the Lambs book of Life. Jesus will now send his Holy Spirit to come and live in your heart and guide you into all truth. If you have any questions just send me an email, God Bless YOU!!

Scriptures require reading and interpreting for yourself. I'm an atheist, but when I was a Christian I read the Bible cover-to-cover five times. Most people that I know that attempt reading it give up and let others tell them what it says. Christians are the people most ignorant about the Bible that I know.

I don't know. But I know if they believe Jesus coming in the flesh, and that He is our Savior, and they follow the commandment of love, that is all that's told we must do. It is a wonderful way to communicate with God to read His Word. I recommend it.

Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. Although knowing the scriptures is important, knowledge is not going to get anyone into heaven. It is their heart. And if they are Christians and messing up, God will deal with them. No matter who you are, you reap what you sow. Therefore, it is all in the heart. God bless.
