Ive had APBTs since I was in diapers and will never own another breed. A true bred PitBull is the only dog ever bred to NEVER bite a human. People forget that and dont practice selective breeding. If a dog shows the slightest bit of human aggression, put it down, never breed it and test any existing pups for aggression. Most people cant even spot a PitBull, alot of breeds are mistaken for pits. It would be like having an arab rob you and telling the police it was a black man because they were dark skinned. A true bred PitBull also makes a terrible guard dog because they are friendly to all people, including the badguy. When someone buys a PitBull from the newspaper for $100 they should expect some issues. It may be purebred but PitBulls arent to be bred for looks- headsize - weight -etc. You breed them on temperment alone. They are the most loyal dogs ever and people should get to know them in real life before making assumptions. The worst attack on a child Ive ever seen was from my neighbors yellow lab on her own daughter. That wasnt in the news and everyone still loves them as family pets. The breed strikes a fear nerve in people, even though they are way towards the bottom of the list on number of bites per year. The last list I saw the GSR was #1.

I have most certainly educated myself on the breed and I understand the different breeds categorized as "pit bulls". I do not think these dogs are safe. This breed was originally bred for bull baiting. When this was outlawed people began fighting the dogs against each other in "pits". The bulldog and terrier were combined to create a dog with strength, force, aggresion, tenacity (gameness), a strong and powerful bite, the ability to attack without any provacation or warning, fight to the death by causing as much pain as possible in a short amount of time, and to not let go regardless of the victoms response. What was the point of having a fighting dog if you had to rile him up before every fight? None. So that's why pit bulls were created. They were always ready for a fight. These traits were favored and breeders designed these dogs to be the ideal pit fighting breed. That is the only thing they were bred for and created for.

Pitbulls are really great dogs. It's actually proven they are amazing family dogs because they bond so well and are protective. This in no way mean that they are attack dogs and just kill out of no where. You don't know how many times I've had to say this: It's the owners who train them, not the dog. The ONLY reasons pitbulls will FIGHT is because they are LOYAL to their owners and want to pursue what the owners ASK them to do. This does NOT mean all of them will attack and kill another dog nor human. If they are brought up in the right environment, recieve the proper love and care, and are well trained, then they are un-doubtedly the greatest dog. I've worked with several over the time I've worked and currently work at a Doggie-Daycare. They are extremely sweet.

What do I think of Pit Bulls? About the greatest family dog there is. My two APBTs love everyone. They are very loving dogs. Of course also are my Chi/Rat Terrier and Beagle. I guess all my dogs have loved everyone. From the little Chihuahua, who would jump in your lap if you sat down as would the Toy Poodle. My German Shepard's loved everyone as did all my mutts. My St. Bernard, Border Coolie, Irish Wolfhound, Old English Sheepdog and Great Dane loved everyone.
Gee, do you think maybe it has nothing to do with the breed and just how the dogs are raised?

Pit bulls are just like any other dog. In general, they will do what their owner wants. If their owner wants them to fight then they fight. If heir owner treats them like a family dog and is kind and loving then they will be kind and loving. Obviously there are exception. Some dogs can not be made to fight no matter what and some dogs are just more aggressive. However, generally speaking dogs act the way their owner wants them to act. Pit bull because of their biology (strong jaw, muscular build etc) are well adept at fighting if that is what the owners choose.
I know a very aggressive Maltese in the neighborhood, but because it is very small, no one complains. On the flip side I have a lab/pit bull mix and she is so loving. She is 80 pounds and very gentle.

I think pit bulls are a great breed, the only problem is some of the owners. Most people get this breed for one reason (security) so they train them to attack (like beating them to make them vicious).
Don't hate the breed, Hate the morons that make them the way they are

My only knowledge of Pits was negative news bits until 10 mos. ago, shortly before " I became the property" of a 6wk. old pup. I researched the breed before choosing one. With very little effort, I learned honorable things about Pit Bulls that no other breed even compares to! Anyone can access this info & learn the real reputation this breed deserves!

Pits are great dogs. Unfortunately, stupid owners and the media give them bad reputations. No dog breed was created to fight, maim, and kill, and anyone who thinks that's true of Pits needs to be re-educated. Raised correctly with a loving person, Pits are great family pets, loyal, and friendly. No breed deserves to be eliminated; the bad owners should be.

I love pits they are one of my favorite breeds of dogs, during the 80's the German Shepard was the dog that everyone wanted then during the 90's it was the Rottweiler and now its the Pit bull and soon it will be another breed of dog that people consider to be ''evil'' and that breed will be in the same situation as the pit bull is now

My daughter has Pits , inside dogs, and they are very well behaved dogs. Like any other breed, I think Pits are what humans make them!!! They do get a bad rap, just as the Dobermans once did back in the 70's.
