When you say "Los Angeles" do you mean the Greater
L.A. which embraces Hollywood ,Beverly Hills ,and
other towns nearby ? Every one says we're going
to L.A. but downtown L.A. is not a good place for
tourists---bleak and tawdry and nothing to see or do.

The interesting places are Beverly Hills ,Santa Monica,
Pasadena, Long Beach, Disneyland (Anaheim) and
such ---you should check with your friend to ask him
for the nearest locations in relation to his home---
and let him recommend a good high quality motel --
Hotels would be much more expensive--even motels
run around $100/night for the best ones --

Bon Voyage as we say over here !
I'll bet you know what that means !
and Bon Appetit---if you can find a Red Robin or
TG Fridays ---they're quality and inexpensive and fun !

With the weak dollar now is the time to travel to the USA. You will probably need to rent a car. Especially if you have to travel more than 5 miles in one direction if you are here.

Here are the web site for two motels that are bare basics but comfortable.

Expect to pay $70 to $90 a night.
