Typically, a urologist will treat prostate cancer. However, sometimes a patient will be referred to an oncologist or (if radiation is prescribed) to a radiation oncologist.

Best of luck!

The diagnosis of prostate Ca will normally be given by a urologist. Depending on the PSA, and staging investigations, CT and Bone scan, and discussion with the patient regarding options depends on who will see the patient. If they are having surgery, open or lap prostatectomy, HiFu (if the PCT pays for it), active surveillance or androgen ablation (hormone therapy) then they will be under the care of a urological surgeon. If they are referred for radiotherapy, with either curative or palliative intent, it will be a clinical oncologist.

Good luck and i hope this helps. If you are ever in the dark, contact the urology specialist nurse at the hospital and they will happily answer any Q's.

If a patient was diagnosed with cancer, he/she would most likely be referred to an oncologist, a doctor who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cancers.

Urologist is lead on any prostate problem. the doc can offer, surgery, radiation, cryosurgery, radioactive implants. At present there is no chemo. if the cancer escapes the encapsule surrounding the prostate and invades the lymph nodes near by, you're toast. the disease spreads up your spine and, altho hormone therapy can slow it and paliative medicine can make it more acceptable, you still die. Best thing is to get surgery ASAP. You testicles will be disconnected and the your erectile length will be reduced from 1 to 2 inches inside.
