I'm a social work major who plans on moving to the San Francisco Bay Area. I'll be a lot more competitive if I am bilingual Spanish speaking. At the age of 22, is it too late to start studying a foreign language?

I did 2 years of French in high school and have since forgotten most of what I learned.

So should I minor in Spanish or just learn on my own through software?

nope it is never too late, and since u are so young, ( hun, I'm nearing the big 4-oh!) you will be ok. I agree, it may seen hard, but I think u can do it. Try the rosetta stone, I hear that is a gr8 way to learn a foreign language. Many older , ahem! ppl use it with great results!

Babe, I'm 20 and i learn spanish when I was 17 and Italian I just finish becomeing fluent. I learn english when I was 12.
Don't pay attention to the "kids are the only one" stuff...thats bull, in fact I know is bull because a kid would not be smart enough to understand the rules of the language or write it properly. I live in a place where Hispanics and Italians live together so I use all 4 of my langauges on a daily basis.
Being a Brazilian (portuguese speaker) I found it quite easy to learn the other Larin languages, I'll try french next year if I have the chance and dedication.

kisses

its never to late to learn. try using language tapes or pay for a teacher or something. theres a site called learnspanish.com that has practice exercises i think, but i dont think that would help u much. just learning basic words is a good start. good luck and i hope u find a good job!!!
just try google a spanish teacher in ur town, as long as u arewilling to practice at it. if u have a spanish friend, that would be perfect. if not, once u start learning, every time u say a sentence, see if u can translate it in ur head.

Its never too late. But if you are going to San Francisco, you might want to learn an Asian language instead.

It is never too late. I had a woman in her sixties in my Spanish class when I went to school and she was one of the top students in the class.
