My husband and I decided on how many children to have by being aware of what we could afford. He has 4 from a previous marriage, so we stopped after having 1. I don't regret only having one child and she is well adjusted, has a lot of friends and is very active. She is also very close to her much older brothers and sisters. If we had more children, we wouldn't have been able to afford extras and activities for them. To us, it was better to stop at one and to be able to give her more opportunities than to have more and to be completely broke. So I would say that it is best to decide the number of children to have by how many you want and how many you can afford to take care of in the lifestyle that you want.

Well, I always thought I would have 2. Unfortunately my relationship did not work with my oldest son's father. After 7 years together we split up and I am married to someone else now. We have a child together and are expecting another. At this point we would both like 4 children- we have the room for it (bought a nice big 5bdr home) and can financially support them.

Later, we may foster and/or adopt to expand our family!

I'm not sure that I have decided!
My eldest is 10 and after I had him I wasn't ready for another until 5 years later when I had my youngest. I am pregnant with my 3rd at the mo and my youngest will be 6 when he/she is born.
I would never rule out having anymore kids as I just get a feeling of being "ready" for another so who knows?
Obviously though I will be to old for having kids one day and have to say that I will be happy at having had three

Our limit was 3 I had my girl first than we said if the second one was a boy we would stop there if it turned out the second child was another girl we would try a 3rd time for a boy but if by the 3 time we still didn't have a boy we would stop there no matter what. But we had a boy our second time and now we have a girl an a boy. which we are very happy w/

My husband and I discussed it after I got pregnant with our first child that we wanted two kids.. (hopefully boy/girl).
I am now 33 weeks pregnant with our second and he is either going to get a vasectomy or I am getting a hysterectomy.
We have a 2 yr old daughter and a baby boy on the way! Woo!!

P.S. I always wanted 2 (boy/girl) since I was a kid.. that's what my mom had too =)

I wanted 10 and my fiancee wanted around 2. We've decided on 2 to 4 of our own. I'm trying to get adoption in his head once we're both done college. We'll probably adopt 2 to 6 kids.
