If we are living a life for God, should we, as Christians, observe a holiday that has nothing to do with God? What values is it teaching our children to observe a peagan holiday?

Well, when I was younger my mother was highly religious, I mean we stopped celebrating Christmas when I was 8 because she thought it was a peagan holiday.

All grown up now and I am saved. I don't believe that Christians should celebrate this particular holiday, but I DO believe that children need a healthy balance. I allowed my children to celebrate until they were 12. I don't take them trick or treating, they usually go with their friends, or I take them to some kind of church festivity. I don't think that to children it is about 'celebrating'. I think it is just about seeing who can get the most candy.

I don't see why not. Halloween is a Christian holiday. It is no more (or no less) pagan than Christmas is.

Halloween is a holiday invented by the church to cover up Samhain (the name of the actual pagan holiday, Gaelic for Summer's End). The church didn't like pagan festivals, but could not get rid of them (Christmas itself was originally a pagan holiday), so they often covered them up.

On the day after Samhain, they set up All Saint's Day to account for the evil wickedness of Samhain. They changed its name to Halloween, or All Hallows Eve. Hallow means holy, so it was the eve of a holy day, All Saint's Day.

It's great fun for adults and children alike. It does not need any religious connection to be enjoyable. Just have fun with your kids.

Many of the churches today have festivities for the young people on this night to keep them from roaming around.I don't care how modern it is today it is still a pagan holiday, although most kids only think of it as a time to dress up and collect candy.99% of people do not think of Halloween as a pagan holiday, but as a day to give their kids a good time.

By "observing Halloween" do you mean observing pagan practices purposefully, or do you mean dressing up in costumes and enjoying treats? We are Christians, but we dress up and usually attend a carnival at a local church or school. Costumes are limited to fun ideas--- nothing creepy or scary. We like to put out pumpkins that our kids paint silly faces on every year, too.

There's nothing wrong with wearing a mask, trying to scare people, and collecting candy. I think it's a lot of fun. Just like there's no Santa Claus, but it's still a lot of fun to pretend that there is. It's okay for Christians to have fun. God is more displeased with grumpy Christians who like to find fault.

Its fun. *shrugs* Heck I've been to churches that give out candy on Halloween. Just as long as you don't let your kid dress up in something overly evil (like a devil) I think it's fine. Contrary to popular belief, Halloween is not the devils holiday (it started out as a way to avoid the dead when they came back to walk the earth on what was then New Years Eve).

It's teaching them to have fun! Any holiday only carries the meaning that you attach to it.

I grew up in a Catholic home and we celebrated Halloween by baking cookies, dressing up, and trick or treating. My catholic school had a halloween party, too!

Most of the population probabley dont even know what Halloween is about. Kids understand that it is a time to have fun,get candy and dress up,not the real meaning!

of course not. but one can celebrate the LORD giving
us a good harvest. the same decorations can be used
throughout Thanksgiving holiday. having a day to praise
ADONAI makes a lot of sense. the fun can still be had
without the demonic aspect. holidays are the LORD'S gift
to us and we should celebrate what ADONAI has given.

If you are a strong Christian, it's still OK to celebrate Halloween! Let your children have a little fun and dress up. It may not teach them values but it will teach them to let loose. I don't want to offend ANYONE believe me. But I think that we live lives for ourselves and worship God. I don't believe that He lives our lives for us. No, I think we are living a life for ourselves.
