It's not scary it's preposterous. The first 6 or 7 presidents were non-sectarians it's only been in recent times that politicians have had to claim belief in the Christian god to be elected. Jefferson said "There is not one redeeming feature in our superstition of Christianity. It has made one half the world fools, and the other half hypocrites."
The radical evangelical Christian right want everyone to believe that the founding fathers were all southern Baptists (they weren't) and tithed to Pat Robertson's 700 Club every year; that teaching the bible is public schools is exactly the way the founding fathers would want it and churches are doing the country's work by preaching who people should vote for. The radical evangelical Christian right couldn't be more wrong.

The fact that you have to believe in a fairy tale god in order to become president of the United States isn't half as scary as the fact that if you DON'T profess a belief in the christian god, you won't get elected in...no matter how qualified you are...
If you profess a belief in the christian god and are an idiot with absolutely zero political experience, much like our current commander in chief, then you're more likely to get elected to the office of president (by a vote of the people) than if you were an atheist with bundles of political experience.
In a nutshell....people are dumb enough to vote for the christian with zero experience rather than another individual of a differing or no belief system, with oodles of experience....hypothetically, of course....
THAT'S what's really scary.....

I think it's not frightening that one has to believe in a (Christian) God to become a President.
How could a president practice and carry out the laws if he is not a believer of God!
What do you think of the markings of a US coin, "In God We Trust" ? Is the word God a mere display????
I think the preamble of the constitution and by laws usually contains the word "God". Is it a mere display on the laws???
Which do you prefer as a president ???
an Atheist or a Believer of God???

no, that proves how stupid people who believe in god are. they feel if you dont believe in god you shouldn't be president. It's sad however on another note that presidential candidates have PROVEN that if you don't pick one of the major religions to follow then you will lose MANY votes. That's not to say they actually 'do' believe in god or follow (devoutly) any organized religion. Heck, most of them are probably atheists. If you think about it, they'd have to be otherwise we'd never have wars that weren't driven by religion because it is not only against the laws of god to kill, but it would be much worse to command people to do so for any reason other than a divine purpose. We are not stupid, the design of god is however.

Yes its either you are the one stupid or all of the US Presidents who believed in God. In other words, they believed in "Order" because the Christian God is a God of Order. Most people in America are orderly Christians or maturely Christians. Try yourself to run for US President in a dis-ordered way or immature way or unless you will to be blinded by your own short shallow thinking.

God said that He will love those who loves his people, meaning Jews. Our Christian President knows this and has vowed to protect Jerusalem.
I personally would not want a president who wasn't a Christian.

I am uncomfortable that a political leader of a secular Republic would use his religious views to guide him in his policies. I think you have a duty to you fellow humans to be a decent citizen and treat others the way you want to be treated without God intervening. There are plenty of bad things which happen in the world in the name of religion. All warring nations seem to believe they have God on their side.

That is so true, freedom of religion really isn't free. I think if our President was a Satanist or like to have human sacrifices I would be concerned, but if he chose Wicca, religious study of nature, I don't think that would be a bad thing.

I didn't know that was a requirement. In fact - it's not.
Our society might expect it - but it's certainly not the law.
It's proof that we are a predominantly Christian country. That's all. It has a lot more to do with history and geography than stupidity.
Namaste!

It actually is man.
A man should not be judged by his/her personal beliefs, but by how he/she is capable of dealing with situations. Being president is a big responsibility obviously and for that, you needn't believe in this or that.
Kinda offensive in the end, like they want you to be what they want, not who you are, and that in itself makes you less sure of yourself, expecting others to dictate the way for you not letting you make your own path =/
