Vitamin supplements should only be taken to correct for a deficiency, if a person is getting all they need from food there is no need for a supplement. There are some people who will benefit from a multi vitamin but they are a minority (although in that case as long as the person doesn't take too much it won't really matter all that much which factory it comes from provided quality control is good).

For the most part they are just quackery.
