I have a 23 yr old brother who lives in Colorado Springs with ten other male friends including 2 half brothers of mine in one big household. we all were born in the Philippines with an American Father and an Asian Mother but all of us are U.S. Citizens. I just found out recently that he has been having problems with the lady that owns and runs the house. According to him that she has a Rule in the house that if anyone does not abide by her rules as far as curfew and the rest. She will confiscate their personal Cellphone and grounded for a month. I was in shock and being that I'm here in New york and he is in Colorado, I don't know what to say. This lady is straight up Asian and I'm furious as far as her stupid rules in her house. One time my brother came home late cause he was waiting for his co-worker and as soon as he got home, this lady questioned him and punished him and took his personal cellphone and grounded him for a month and this. He just had to listen cause no place to go.

She doesn't have the right to confiscate anything as long as the rent is being paid HOWEVER she is running a rooming house (who knows if it's even legal) and she has a set of rules that she expects her renters to follow. Don't like the rules??? Move.

It's just normal to have house rules... but why confiscate the cellphones? that's too much!! What about if there's an emergency call in the middle of the night and at that time the lady confiscated them?
Anyway, if he can't find another place, it's no choice but abide by her rules. If he can't take her anymore, he'll do his best to get out from that house so not to make his life miserable.

Sorry, but it's obvious she made it very clear to these guys what the rules were and what the consequences were. So why do they seem to have a problem with following them? That is not HER fault, that is HIS fault!

I guess he could make a big deal out of it and lose his place to live as well as ruin it for the other guys living there. OR he could follow the rules and keep a roof over his head.

how old are these brothers and other male friends, if they are a similar age to you, how can she do such things, they are adults, and have every right to go and come as they please, they all need to up and leave find somewhere else to live, this landlord is being to restricted on them, surely houses are not that scarce, have they got a contract with the landlord, what does that say, if it tells them that is the rule then more fool them for accepting the place, but legally I cannot see how she could do this, seek legal advice but not through here

Yup ... rule alittle over the top , ....... her house, her mortgage, her rules ...... live by 'em or leave.

Life is so very like that .... we all have compromises to make..... his is living where he dose and the rules he must follow.

It's a choice ..... he has feet and a thumb ... he can leave any time he wants. In her defence..... she has the rules to preserve respect and control ...... face it, she's way out numbered ....... It's his choice to live with her rules .... the price must be right if he's still there!

he/they must have said they would abide by the rules before living there - but they are adults and should not be treated in this way - I think he should start looking for somewhere else to live seriously.

if he's not paying rent, then he should follow rules.

is she running a male whore house?

he's old enough to either pay rent, follow rules, or get out and get his own place.

Why doesn't he have anyplace else to go? He's a grown man, he can get a job and get his own place. I suggest you tell him that.
