Well, since you've stoped doing it for a while, it might be some sort of "whthdrawl" (i cant't think of another term!)
SInce you lost the urge after a bit, it's probably going away, i wouldn't be concerned unless you want to do it more and more often!

I still say you need to tell your doctor.
You have to deal with WHY you want to bite. Why you need the pain to feel better. I think you know what the reason is, but you have to go to a therapist, or just talk to someone....Then I think the urges will go away sooner.
everyone who has ever tried to quit anything usually has a relapse. Dont beat yourself up about it. Just try harder this time to quit for good.
Theres little tricks, gum chewing, biting other objects (I think rubber would work best. You could even carry around a little pacifier in your pocket, so you'll have something at hand OTHER then your hand if you get an urge) and many other things....
Good luck!

GT, first u have to relax and take a deep breath. if u feel wanna bite then find a distraction such do a light sport such jogging or watch interesting movie that will take away your mind from doing it over and over again.

hey, i dont actualy bite myself but i do burn my fingers when i panik or feel nervouse with ciggrettes or lighters and am tryin to stop because i get blisters and scars and i now dont have any finger prints cause of it but the only thing i can think of to stop biting yourself would be a mouth gaurd, not the massive 1s just the 1's you wear for sleeping were invented so when u bite your teath together u dont crack your teeth so u could try sorry i could be much better help

I also sometimes bite myself, especially when I`m really upset.... It`s better than cutting, and bruises disappear after 7 days... I don`t know what should you do to stop it, I`m just writing this to show you that you`re not the only one and should stop worrying... Just make sure nobody sees your bruises.... I know this is not the best advice, but I don`t know myself what should I do to stop it....
I recommend biting pillows, or anything soft enough not to damage your teeth. It didn`t work with me, but might work in your case....
Good Luck......
