Ok, so please don't tell me how irresponsible you think I am for letting my cat get pregnant, I wanted my cat spayed ....

But now she is in labor. We gave her a flea pill and she is ok. The vet reccommened doing this.

She is lying on a blanket in the middle of the living room, is it ok to pet her or give her some water or will that distract her ?

people say that you are supposed to leave cat alone when she is in labor. But that depends really on the cat.
We have had several cats and some went into hiding to have the kittens, some had them out in the open.
It really depends on the trust level she has with you, just try to read her body language. If you know her good enough you will notice if she wants to left alone or not.
petting or and keeping her company is not a distraction. Water and food close by is OK, she will not want to get up anywhere far, but leave it up to her if she wants to eat.
Try not to leave her completely alone too long in case some complications occur.

I would suggest to put the blanket inside a box, and to put the box somewhere to the side. Not really in the middle of the room, that way she will feel safer and will be less nervous when the kittens are born.
When freshly born, only touch the kittens if absolutely necessary, the strange smell could prompt her to ignore the kitten.

Apart from that, let nature take its course.

She'll tell you if she does'nt want any fuss, many cats when in labour like to have their owners with them to comfort them espicially if this is her 1st pregnancy,if you have any cat milk put that n a bowl close by,if you 've got a box ready have a blanket with a newspaper at the bottom so if she does'nt want fuss she can go in n out the way of your family...but in the end most go n have the kittens some where completely different..mine had her1st litter in the smallest gap between stuff under my bed x3kittens and her 2nd lot she had as yours right in the middle of the fire rug in a fluffy cat bed everyone around x8 kittens that time.. lol so glglgl

Have water nearby her so she get it if she wants it. Other than that try to leave her alone so she can get on with it - just check periodically that she does not seem in any distress and if she does, CALL A VET, do not post a new q on Yahoo Answers.

Ideally a cat should have somewhere private to whelp.

Give her water she drink it if she needs it, also if the labour goes on for a while offer her some food. Labour can take a lot out of them, just sit them about a foot away from her she will get it if she wants.
Good luck.

i would say that pefore her labor maybe her get some water and then leave her alone. im sure she will be more calm if nobodys around. after labour maybe pet her a little( if she doesnt like it its normal, since her kittns are around she might feel protective) after somedays you will be able to pet and be with her as normal. good luck with your new family! ;)

ps: Cats can be surgically sterilized (spayed or castrated) as early as 6–8 weeks

When our cat went into labour she walked around the house yelling at us to stroke and be with her. She was quite determined to have it under a bed but we blocked it off because it wouldn't have been safe under there. Eventually she decided to have it under a toy cot!
We made sure she had food and drink nearby and in the end it didn't take long (she only had one kitten though).
Good luck!

I would just sit by her in case she needs you. Give her plenty of food and water after she gives birth but not too much cause she migt get sick. I think it's good that you are there for her. I hope everything turns out OK with her little furry purries.
