It is all what was given and taken in previous births and rewards or punishments or training in this birth.
A child was born to a mother as an outlet in to this world and immediately after the birth, the mother completed her share of dues, and so she left.
If the newly born owed to the step mother, he takes on all from her and otherwise, he also receives service from step mother.
You have to withdraw one word: "who is there but not fair". It is a portion being played by the step mother, and the wisdom prevails, if the new born takes responsibility and understands all this past, he will grow cool and come out all of the hurdles and makes shining his own life.
We should realize, either garlands or prisoner's braces, it was not blame anyone, but his fate.

A birth mother who cares but who's not there. Atleast I'd know my real birth mom care's, there would be lots of valid reasons why she wouldn't be there. It gives me comfort to know that she cares.

wow, that is a difficult Q to answer.
Personally, I would feel more comfortable with a birth mother that can't be there.
On the other hand, an unfair stepmother might be okay providing she doesn't abuse the child mentally and physically.
If that is the case, I would rather opt for foster care.
