Hi Rose,

You can set you Internet Explorer's security settings by going to the "Tools" menu then "Options" (keyboard shortcut: alt+t then press letter 'o').

A dialogue box will appear. Click on the tab that says "Security". From there you can set the level of security for your Internet Exploerer. You can also click the button that says "Default level" to restore the settings to the most recommended value.

Unless you specifically have installed some 3rd party toolbar yourself, then that toolbar and its alert about your "Security Level" being a "4" could very well be malware itself. A scam to goad you into buying some useless, needless product to "Improve" that level.

There is NO toolbar in Internet Explorer itself that will rate your security!!!

I would run both your anti-virus and your anti-spyware programs and see if they find anything.

Good luck.

I have never heard of a toolbar telling you to increase your security. That does not mean it does not exist. However you may have spyware that is trying to get you to download a program that will further infect your system. Run the scan below to check.

Update and run your Anti-Virus program. Don't have one? You can run a free online scan from CA.

Run Spybot and SuperAntiSpyware weekly.

Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/...... . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.

Download, update and run SuperAntiSpyware---http://www.snapfiles.com/get/SuperAntiSpyware.html

Now to prevent spyware from being installed in the first place....

Download SpywareBlaster---http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html...
SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.

It's main features include:
- Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
- Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
- Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.

Uh, is it titled Security Toolbar 7.1? If it is, you're in trouble. Reply by adding details to your question, I'll check again.
