Your partner needs to go to the doctor or the ER. There may be damage to the eyes that may not go away and concussion is always a possibly to check for. Possible bleeding in the brain requires immediate attention. Meanwhile make sure ice is placed on the swollen areas frequently. Pain relievers such as Advil, Tylenol or any OTC should be taken. Without being assessed by a doctor or the ER, there is no telling how serious it is and therefore I cannot say how long it will take to go away.

His eyes are swollen shut because (I'm assuming) blood may have gotten into them. Any time I've gotten blood in my eyes from an injury..they've swollen shut. Its a natural reaction. I would, however INSIST that he goes to the E.R. if the swelling doesn't go down within 24 hours. In the meantime, flush his face (about the eye area especially) with cool water (not cold) to wash away anything that may be adding to the swelling.

He should go to hospital and be examined by a doctor immeadiately to rule out any serious head injury.
He will obviously suffering from concussion after such a blow that would cause that type of swelling .
dont sit at home presuming that the swelling will go down because it will probably get a lot worse before it gets better.

please try to convince him to seek medical treatment, then if he is okay you can all rest at ease and just give hime some TLC .

A head trauma severe enough to produce excessive swelling and bruising is nothing to take lightly, and can be fatal if left untreated. There are innumerable internal injuries that can occur, including a herniation of the brain, a subdural hematoma, or ruptures of any of the brain's blood vessels. Your man needs to get examined, and I wouldn't waste a lot of time getting him to do it.

Take him to the ER. Tell him you're taking him for some ice cream and then strait to the ER. Or call his mother & father, or brothers & sisters, get them to help him, or his best friend! But get it looked at right away! My mother almost dies from a fall she took, when a blood vessel blew up in her head. Lucky for all of us my father was quick thinking and took her to the hospital and gave the go ahead for surgery. It tuff but it's tuffer to bury someone you love.

If he didn't loose conscience then I would assume he is ok.
If he didn't vomit, he's probably is ok.
Ice packs to bring the swelling down and Tylenol to relieve the pain.
If he did vomit and loose conscience, then he NEEDS to go to the hospital or the Dr. first thing Monday morning.

I would ring an ambo if you want too, the problem is, he could have a brain injury and could pass away 3 days later.
