I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who had a bit'h of a time quitting drinking coffee, sodas like pepsi, mountain dew and so on because of pregnancy. I'm 18 weeks and 3 days pregnant and I have urges to drink pepsi or any type of soda with caffiene. Even though I switched to drinking juices and water now it's just driving me insane I want caffiene!

I never totally quit. People say that up to 300mgs of caffeine a day is o.k. for a pregnant woman. My hubby and I both drink coffee, and since I'm the one that sets the pot up, I switch between regular and decaf. I didn't drink sodas that much before I was pg, so it wasn't a big deal. Hot tea on the other hand has been difficult. LOL.

It's o.k. to have a soda once in a while. Go ahead and treat yourself. Just don't go crazy.

IYou should never quit entirely all at once. Caffeine, like any drug, needs to be withdrawn from the system a little at a time;
cut down from what you are drinking, by 1 cup or glass a day, until you have completely stopped; and then you should try to drink something with a touch of caffeine in it.

it won't harm the baby but you might try to drink a light weak green tea instead of coffee and soda; it has caffeine but it has benefits that far outweigh the negative of the caffeine.

good luck and congrats on the baby

you don't have to give up caffeine altogether when you are pregnant just like you can still have a glass of wine here and there too. Its about moderation.

6 cups of coke and coffee are probably a bit much but a cup of coffee in the morning and a coke during the day is fine.
You could try what I did and get a DE-caffeinated coffee instead. this eliminates the problem altogether and you can still enjoy a coffee everyday. I could never taste the difference.

best of luck and congratulations!

You don't need to quit completely, just limit your intake. One coffee or soda each day should be fine. You may find that if you stop telling yourself you can't have *any* caffeine your urges to drink these sodas will reduce.
