My cousin's 6 months pregnant. She's a Muslim lady with an Arabic name and her husband is an Orthodox Christian whose Serbian. She wants Muslim name. Husband wants Serbian name. Kids in mixed marriages often have really LONG names so they wanna cut it. All they know is, his last name, "Amidzic" must be there. Would it be wise to combine a Muslim and Serbian name or just choose one over the other? So that the child does not have to suffer writing his LONG name?

Why not a Muslim first name and Serb middle name or vice versa?

Why don't they find a name appropriate to the country in which they live and have two middle names, 1 serbian and 1 muslim one. He picks his, she picks hers and they jointly agree on a first name. This is fairly normal to have 2 middle names and you usually only ever write the first and last name on a daily basis so that shouldn't be too hard.

If the child has a name more appropriate to his/her country of birth then they would feel more settled and able to fit in as they get older. Its amazing how much an unusual name can make a child feel like an outcast.

best of luck

Throw off all convention and call him John Citizen (already popular for credit cards and no cultural issues!) - just kidding.
I'm guessing Amidzic is th ehusbands surname so why not allow this child to have an Arabic name with a Serbian middle name, and then reverse it for the next child.
If you could combine the two names I think that would be beautiful

why dont they give a muslim first name and a serbian middle name or vice versa? I think thats a good solution, and then if they have more children then can do it the other way around! Hope that helps them.

Name the child with a name that reflects the country in which he lives. That way it will make it easier for him/her to graduate in the society for which he/she lives.
