One billion is 1000 times larger than 1 million. So divide by 1000. You get .5537 billion

In the US, one billion is 1000 million. So to convert million to billion divide by 1000. In the UK (and maybe Europe), one billion is one million million.

1 billion is = 1,000 million (or 1,000,000,000).
so 553.7 is = .5537 billion, or a little over 1/2 of 1,000 million.
Hope that makes some sense.
