how do you know what guild wars missions you have done
ex. fort ranik, Gates of Kryta, Nolani Academy

Look at the Map. (M key). The completed missions will have 2 swords thru them indicating that you've completed both the mission and bonus.

Bea is correct. Vizunah Square and Unwaking Waters are unique in that they force you to team up with another team to complete the mission. These are the only missions in the game like that. Nightfall and Eye of the North have some solo missions, but none that force you to team with others. The only other times you'd be teamed up with strangers is in PvP battles like Random Arenas, Alliance Battles and the competitive missions like Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry (you'll find those later). None of the PvP stuff though is necessary to continue thru the storyline.
