The word "fake" is a term wrongly used when referring to wrestling. Wrestling is SCRIPTED and PREDETERMINED. What do those two words mean? It means that there are writers (who are called BOOKERS in wrestling) who creates the storyline and determine the winner and loser of the match. Storylines are very important because it helps the wrestler get pushed to the top as a superstar and at the same time the fans are entertained. An example is the Attitude Era, back in the late 90's the WWE wrote edgy storylines that involves sexual content, profanity, swerves or unexpected heel turns. This became a hit among the fans. The wrestling moves are real but it is not meant to hurt a wrestler, but to protect him/her. I think this is why everybody says it is fake because wrestlers don't get hurt. That is why there are wrestling schools, in order for wrestlers to learn how to execute a move without injuring another wrestler. To prove that wrestling moves are not fake, then you should see Undertaker versus Mankind in a hell in a cell. Mankind fell from the top of the cell and falls into a table which results in several injuries. Also the match between Owen Hart and Stone Cold Steve Austin, which Owen wrongfully executed a move and injured Stone Cold badly. However injuries can be faked as part of a storyline for the reason to give a wrestler a leave. An example was John Cena's injury, which was not real because he was actually shooting in the Marine movie. So to conclude, wrestling is not fake, SCRIPTED and PREDETERMINED are the correct words to use.

It is NOT fake. Fake is a complete wrong term. Wrestling is predetermined and scripted. It's like every 'reality' show you see on TV. It mixes drama with suspense, action, sex, and humor. Only difference is wrestling is a sport and the pinnacle of everything happens in the ring. The superstars are REAL athletes. There is no way you can fake a fall or fake an injury. There is no way you can fake a slap to the chest and fake your chest turning red. In order to keep wrestling alive for today's audience, a lot of scripting is done. If it were not for Vince McMahon wrestling would have expired decades ago. Injuries are real. And even the matches are not fully scripted. The moves are discussed and sometimes spontaneous. Pain is very, very real my friend. So the next time someone pokes at wrestling, tell them it's not fake. Fake is making someone a 'bad guy' on a so-called reality show. That's fake. At least WWE has the word 'entertainment' in it.

It's not fake. It's all scripted. The results of the matches are predetermined. But then what would be the point of paying wrestlers so much if it's all scripted and everyone backstage knows what'll happen? Because the moves they do in the ring and the acrobatics they perform is NOT scripted. They do it to entertain the crowd, and of their own discretion. And that can sometimes result in very bad injuries that can be very much career-threatening, or sometimes even life-threatening. That's why they get paid so much.

yes in the sense they arent actually trying to kill each other and they plan on what they do. but the moves they do are real. its not computer generated or anything (obviously). when jeff hardy does his swanton bomb from the turnbuckle he really jumps, but he tries not to land on the guy where it would really hurt. sometimes mistakes are made and someone does get seriously injured, or occasionlly two guys that really do hate each other may actually start throwing legitimate punches or holds.

Heck, yeah. I mean, who is to become the outcome is what is all pre-conceived. But of course I couldn't see anyone WANTING some of the injuries these guys get, so I reckon sometimes they get a bit over excited and out of hand... or maybe some of these guys are just brilliant contortionists...
