Why have drag queens been more readily accepted into main steam society then darg kings?
Does anyone have any theories to explain this, academic references would be great!

Because they are not afraid to express themselves. They have an air about them that makes you like them. They have to have confidence and people see that in them. Hope that explains it for you.
