i thought if a black cat crossed a mirror and it broke or under a ladder it was bad luck.

but the black cat crossing the road in front of your car is probably bad luck too.

Bad luck for the cat

i'm not quite sure how it is really effective but i heard lot of stories about it. real black cats crossing your path in an instant time even if that place/road has no house nearby, it could mean something or giving you a hint that something might happen if you will not take good care and be attentive esp in driving that time.
<>black crow that keeps on howling near you is giving you a message that someone in your family/relative is in danger life. (i do always experience this everytime something happened in my family or my close relatives. a niece when she got accident & was hospitalized, that black crow was somewhat pesting at me, & i thought of throwing a stone to it to get away from me. in the night when i opened the email, i got that news. recently, a black crow again hovering on top of me, so i made a call to my family & knew that my mother is confined in the hospital & in serious condition). before i got a car crashed, there was a black cat in front of my door when i left the house for work. the cat is not from my neighbor also & i never saw it before. believable or unbelievable, i don't know also. what do you think about it?

Bad luck if you hit it-- then you have to get the car cleaned.

Otherwise, just bad luck for the cat!

Is it a Scottish, or non-Scottish cat?

(In Scotland, black cats crossing one's path are good luck)
