That sounds like one of George Carlin's bits. The food isn't paid for yet, so it really doesn't belong to the person pushing the cart.

No but its rude unless of course they are rude people themselves then who cares. Personally I wouldn't do it but I have brothers who would or they'll actually put extra stuff to the persons cart if they were rude to my brothers or their wives or kids or just in general people around my brothers.

My brothers have warped sense of humors so you figure. They think it's hysterical when the people go to checkouts and find thngs like Douche and the guy is like 20 to whatever something and single and he's wondering if he has the right cart while he's unloading it. Or if it's an 70 and up old lady (and you know old people are rude sometimes) unloading kyjelly. The looks on some of the cashiers faces are great.

Shoplifting is illegal, so security may well "raid" your cart in that case. Not long ago I saw them raid a cart with a large cooler in it and turns out there was a 19" color TV in the cooler. Go figure.

it might be maybe having something in your cart in the store with the intention of buying is makes it in your custody and control and that might make it a crime i don't know for sure but think of how u would feel if u found a really great buy of the last item of that kind and maybe u are on a fixed income and someone did that to u or maybe you were buying it for your small child or this person was you mom or fill in the blank i know if someone did it to me that i am a very calm level headed person but if i caught someone doing that to me i would embarrass them by telling everyone within hearing just what they did and tell the store manager and that would be how i would resolve the problem without violence in no way am i saying u would do something like that so please don't take it that way

I don't think it's illegal. Sometimes it's fun to add certain embarrassing items to peoples carts that are rude and leave their carts in the middle of the aisle while they're talking on the phone oblivious to other people. Done that a few times, even followed them thru the checkout, they didn't even notice the extra items.

You mean to take stuff out their shopping cart when they're not looking because you're too lazy to go grab an identical item off the shelf yourself? I don't think it's illegal unless the person has already paid for said item. But it's not very nice.

Actually, I did hear somewhere that merchandise in a cart that is being used by a customer is considered their property--- because they have the intent to purchase it. So yes, in that case it would be illegal to take other people's stuff.
This law might vary depending on where you live, though.

Doubt it. Never heard of someone being arrested for taking something out of someones cart. But its really rude. Although I have taken something out of someones cart because it was the last item and they pissed me off earlier. Hah, revenge. But yeah, its not illegal.

Just as long as you do it before they buy the items in it, it's not illegal cause it still didn't become their property.

Oh, and just make sure you don't take the baby in the cart, now that would be illegal.

I don't know but it probably should be. It they got to the last box of Lucky Charms far and square and put it in their cart then they should have a right to take it to the checkout line and pay for it.
