There is no statutory minimum length term for members of the House of Representatives. In theory, the new Prime Minister could request the Governor-General to call elections immediately after the new House took their seats. The maximum term of members of the House of Representatives is three years from the date of the first sitting. Given that the first sitting takes place about 50 days after the election and that the time between the dissolution of parliament and an election can be as long as 68 days, that means the maximum time between elections can be as long as 3 years and 4 months. Using the same constraints (except using the minimum time between a dissolution and an election, 33 days), the minimum time between elections would be three months.

Recently, elections have occurred roughly every three years. However, it is entirely possible, if Labor wins a majority in the House of Representatives and the Coalition keeps its majority in the Senate (basically what the polls currently show), that this situation could lead to a double dissolution and new elections sometime toward the end of 2008 or beginning of 2009.

3 years and what a waste of the tax payers money that seem to get thrown around trying to get back in on such big lies being told. it should be 4 year term and that no party Liberal or Labour cannot go beyond that date before calling an election and have more time for people to get enrolled on the electrol roll and not just a short time like Howard Liberal Party likes

I honestly thought the great depression became because of all the hundreds and thousands of Brits immigrating over there. But you make it sound a lot deeper haha. Maybe that has "something" to do with it?:)
