Rap is largely about story-telling and encouragement of hate crimes/speech against white ppl, or against any force that is felt to be an oppressive authority.

This generally explains why rap music is rejected by peaceful, or non-violent ppl and embraced by frustrated/violent people.

Who is more frustrated than a teen? And teens have taken to rap like fish to water. Here they find a kindred spirit in their frustration, a 'friend' who understands.

So, I don't know if rap is destructive to a teen, it might just be that the two are drawn to each other. We don't want to admit it, maybe, but a lot of teens were violent and frustrated before rap appeared. Humans tend to be violent when frustrated.

However--yes--rap is kind of saying, "yes, go ahead and kill.." so this voice of encouragement is there that might or might not be there otherwise.

But you won't kill this hate speech cuz there's so much money in it. I wonder if the kids ever found out that the people who make the most money off rap are white, middle-aged executives, would they still support rap so much?

And I wonder, when the violence comes home to the white, middle-aged record company executives, will they for a moment--just before death-- regret having supported and promoted the message of hate and violence?

I say it is up to the parent my kids 13, 10 ,7 are very well behaved and they know right from wrong because I take the time to teach them . I listen to 2 live crew when I was growing up and I did not turn out being a gangster. I don't listen to that stuff now but when your young you try different things that's how it is. Without Good parenting for sure kids are going to get into a lot of trouble no matter what kind of music they listen to I was a huge metallica fan growing up in the 80's and some of their lyrics are not healthy but again I knew right from wrong.

I don't know how the **** baseball teams got mentioned on here but ok. All I have to say is parents raise your kids. You want to know whats ******* up our youth is the fact that parents count on school and the tv to babysit they damn kids. Its pretty easy for no good *** parents to blame hip hop on everything because they know other deadbeats will agree with them. Where is the proof that rap is ******* up the youth? Instead of going out and getting drunk every night, try staying at home and raising your kids. Oh yeah and there is a such thing as parental blocks.

Rap is just music. An Eminem quote springs to mind:
"They say music can alter moves and talk to you,
but can it load a gun up for you and cock it too?
Well if it can then the next time you assault a dude,
just tell the judge it was my fault, and I'll get sued"

its just music. it never hurt anyone

The youth isn't ours, the youth belong to themselves, just like the old belong to themselves. When the collaborating of minds begin to cross generational gaps, then you can lay claim to "our youth", but until then, try to extend a hand or an ear of understanding and you might realize that what you call destruction is actually rebuilding in process.
