On base in England (where I was living)...since we're 8 hours ahead I'd just gotten home from school and my mom immediately started ringing me from work to tell me to stay where I was, etc....then my step mom in Australia rang to ask if I was OK (go figure)...so had a full day and then came home and watched it happen. Was a really confusing day for me as an 8th grader. Then our base went into Threatcon Delta and we didn't have school for 3 weeks, and weren't allowed off base for the first week or so.

In a pizza restaurant, having lunch, when everyone's mobiles went off with texts saying 'have you seen this?', then looked in the window of Granada's at the display TVs then back to the lab where we rigged the microscope monitor up to an aerial. At the time a number of people though it was done by the same sort of group that carried out the Oklahoma bombing.

I was on the other side of the country, near San Francisco, and it happened just before I went to school. I was in fourth grade at the time, but I remember discussing it a lot in class and at home and wondering how this could happen in the US.

I was here in NY ... Home that morning. My son was off to school and I didn't have class until late in the day. It was a horrible day. My brother was there. He was missing ten hours. And when I finally couldn't take it anymore and went to my son's school to get him, I ran into a roadblock and hey said I couldn't go past. I was hysterical. Finally I convinced them to let me go past because I needed my son to be with me. I was so grateful they bent the rules for me. I am a single Mom and it was very important to me to have my son with me. I could see the smoke in the distance and we had no idea what was going to happen. I just knew if something did, I was going to have my son with me.
