for all of the reasons you listed. mainly for the same reason a mother bear protects her cubs so diligently. she wants her cubs to have every possible opportunity to have everything possible and to protect them from anything that may in fact or be perceived to impede that or harm the cub. they do it because they love you and want to be there for you. sure its annoying at times but just think you could be the lonely broken guy that dies with noone to claim his body. it is much better to have these annoying people there that love you than to be totally alone because you pushed them all away.

I think it might be because of pity and sympathy. I know I feel bad when people are asked an awkward question. Though I don't know how often I butt in...probably too much. Though I don't know how much that is me talking too much and me trying to help them. I think they also feel the awkardness permeating into the entire discussion which is not fun for anyone involved, because then you are all left feeling weird and off-beat.

I think they like you and are trying to be nice and help out. I have no problem with anyone helping me get out of a tough situation and welcome all the help I can get, but if you have a problem with it you should tell them that you don't need their help and want to stand up for yourself.

Gordon...be thankful they are there at all. Many people have NO ONE to help. They have a genuine concern for you, annoying or not, and at least be gracious about it no matter what you feel inside. Someday you will remember this and miss it terribly.
