Even though actuarial science is mathematical in nature, I think you would have more luck getting an answer to your question in the Business & Finance section of Yahoo answers. The subsection I would recommend is Insurance.

I'm not an actuarial science major, but I do know more than a few actuaries. In the course of your studies, make sure you gain a thorough understanding of mathematics, especially probability and statistics. This will help you with your exams. It is very important to understand various types of distributions and how they interact together.

If you plan to eventually become a chief actuary, you not only need to be technically brilliant, but also need to have good communication and administration skills.
