Tonight I have had a HUGE increase in appetite. I want to eat anything and everything. I also feel very dehydrated, and have a terrible headache. I took some Tylenol, but I'm not sure if there's something else going on. I also am having a problem getting the swelling to go down in my feet, and my neck is very tense. I was diagnosed yesterday with a UTI, and I've been taking the antibiotics as directed and drinking tons of water, at least one glass per hour.. any ideas?

I feel for you! I am also 39 weeks and the overwhelming hunger & thirst kicked in a few days ago. I am eating everything in sight, and have easily drank 2 gallons of water today alone. My ankles are balloons & my whole body aches.

I went to my midwife this past Thursday, and she said that:
a) The swelling was normal & to stay off my feet. It will go away within a week of the baby being born.
b) The aches & pains are the stress/anxiety about the pending delivery. Again completely normal, and to try a hot shower or a soak in the tub (yeah like I can get out of the tub these days).
c) The excessive hunger is your body's way of stocking calories to give you the energy to get you through labor & delivery. It is a sure sign that labor is getting closer, and that the baby has gotten into position & you have room for food again.

Good luck!

Sounds like you're body is just tired from pregnancy, the old answer we never want to hear. LOL. I also hear that during the last weeks of pregnancy, the baby drops, giving your lungs and other organs more space, therefore, the feeling of actual hunger back. With a UTI, you're going to feel dehydrated. As long as you're not in serious pain, not seeing any "floaties" accompanied with a headache and/or dizziness (signs of pre-eclampsia), I think you'll be ok. But of course, call your Doc, no one can ease your worries like him/her. =)

It really sounds best to call your doctor. Are you sure you're not drinking too much water? That's a lot of water to be feeling dehydrated? You're not on a low-fat diet, are you? Because the baby's using a lot of fat at this stage of development.

If you really feel awful, at 39 weeks, call the doctor or midwife.
