The memory gimmick I read on a web site was pretty simpleminded and it didn't work the very first time I used it, but has worked every time since.
2 D's, 2 S's and 3 Emotions
I shortened it a bit and have it like this
2 D's, 2 S's and 3 Emos
So in this order
Dopey and Doc
Sleepy and Sneezy
Bashful, Happy and Grumpy
Remembering EDS or DEMOS helps me get started.

Yep. There are three emotions - Grumpy, Happy, Bashful
Two D s - Doc and Dopey
Two S s - Sleepy, Sneezy
But what most don t know is there was an eighth dwarf that was cut from the movie. It was a female character that Walt felt conflicted with Snow. She was named Sleazy. :)
