It won't hurt your computer. It's just that it would slows down your computer. What i mean is, whenever you want to download new stuffs, even though you already knew you have downloaded lots of stuff, it will take longer time to finish loading the whole thing. So..just delete all the unnecessary items to make space for the new ones.

It can damage your hard drive (takes a loooonnggg time)
Hard drives wear out when you write on them a lot, and when you download your computer is constantly writing the new info onto your hard drive.
Its a good idea to have one old like 5gb hard drive to download stuff to, and then when the downloads done transfer it to your main hard drive.
You dont have to worry about this unless you download for days on end, like having your computer on for days to download some 10gb file...

it takes up a bytes etc.
So it will make your computer slower over time.
Though you can always remove all the stuff but you might need a pro to do it, sometimes they are buried in all system files and you dont want to delete the wrong ones, plus itl take forever.
Also, when you download stuff make sure it is from a relible source so you dont get viruses, cuz that will hurt your pc...

The only thing you really have to be worried about is viruses and spyware.
Also, when you start deleting, you will need to do a hard drive defrag. All the junk on there will be scattered, slowing down your computer.
