I know the kind you mean when you say it hits you the same every time, and this is what I would recommend if you're after something slow/quiet: Snuff by Slipknot is really passionate and meaningful, and it's about breaking up with someone. Forget any ideas you may have about how Slipknot sound, though - this is different. Slow and soulful. Save Us by Cartel has got some real feeling behind it. Was It a Dream? by 30 Seconds to Mars can get a bit teary if you're in the right mood for it. Hello or My Immortal by Evanescence also fit the bill quite well if you're looking for something a bit more mellow. Also try Vices by Dead Poetic (the song not the album). I know you said you don't like screamo but Rough Hands by Alexisonfire has got some real raw emotion behind it if you're in a passionate mood. Well, i heard this one song off the radio a few weeks ago, and it was from Kid's new record. All i heard was this kinda cool 70's vibe retro thing, and i thought it was cool somebody was doing something new...but older , ya know? But then they came on after and said it was a new Kid Rock tune, and i was thinking how weird THAT was. Great song , but i'm still NOT gonna buy any Kid Rock....
