They're really lucky if they're still happy. Most marriages that young end in divorce and kids who are hurt.

Considering the fact that they were still in school, couldn’t drive and couldn’t even work more than a few hours a day (those pesky child labor laws), I think was incredibly unintelligent to get married that young. I have to wonder how they got a judge to approve it (marriage at 14/15 requires court approval in additional to parental consent). Was there a baby involved? Even then most judges still wouldn't approve it.

it really just depends on their happiness. if she's satisfied with her decision, then that's AWESOME that they could find that kind of love so young in life. if she's miserable, then maybe not such a good idea. it all depends on how the relationship has held together. people can get married at 45 and still not have as good a relationship as some who married at 14 or even 18. age doesn't have a whole lot to do with it, as long as you are TRUELY in love.

My grandma got married at 14 and had a son at 15 and a daughter and 18. All I have to say is more power to you.

Tell your brother and sister that all though the idiots here are showing their stupidity, I happen to think having been together that long with no true difficulties is great. Please tell them I am proud of them, as my marriage fell apart after 5 years, and I purposefully married later to aqvoid the exact same problem. It is wonderful that they found each other so early and have stayed together this long.

I can't say I understand getting married as young as you say they were, but if their was cause and reason it must have been good for them as you describe them as happy and well ajusted to adult life.

Congrats to them, I'm a little jealous.

~:~ I live in a western civilized-society where 14year olds are still considered children. In my opinion, this is as it should be.

~:~ I live in a western civilized-society where sex with a 14year old will get you arrested. In my opinion, this is as it should be.

~:~ I live in a western civilised-society where 14year olds are having sex and getting pregnant. In my opinion, this is NOT as it should be.

~:~ I live in a western civilized-society where the divorce rate is roughly 25%. In my opinion, this too is NOT as it should be.

This is not a perfect world, as parents we can only do our best.
My congratulations to your sister and her husband (sorry I don't know if she is your sister or sister-in-law) on a successful 13 year marriage.
Successful because it can not have been easy for them.
Successful because they are still together after thirteen years.

Awesome question, I like to be part of any question that gets people thinking and passionate in their responses.

Well in the US it's not legal so you are more then likely from another country so your sil prob didn't get a say in her marriage. I say for religion and culture who am I to judge, but for me personally it's not for me, and no child should be forced into a marriage at 13 or 14.

Thats rare, 13 years is a long time. I would have never married at that age, but at this point if they have made it God bless them. It's hard enough at 30 to stay married!! Good Luck to them

that has been the way it was for over 2000 years. now some Conservative Christians decided that no one under the age of 18 should have sex and if they did it would be a crime.Chances are that most people over 30 their grandmother was married before she was 16. her husband was usually 4 to 5 years older making him 21 or 22 at their marriage Now most grandfathers would be considered Child molesters for marrying a girl at 16. Christians want to tell us what and when to eat who to hang out with what to wear what to say and dictate every part of our lives. I guess we don't have enough sense to think on our own.

Didn't happen. Even in the states that allow for marriage of people so young you also need the approval of a judge and both sets of parents. Even if they were pregnant most judges won't approve a marriage where both people are extremely young.
