The Super Bowl, because of its huge audience, has become the best way to make a major splash in one shot with a national audience. It's the biggest day of the year in the ad business. Companies work extremely hard to get noticed on the Super Bowl broadcast, usually with the use of humor.

By the way, to a certain extent products associated with African-American markets often use the NBA All-Star Game in the same manner.

With its longer schedule, the World Series doesn't have that same sort of one-shot appeal. It still does fine though, with a good demographic, so advertisers are still paying plenty for a viewing. They just don't often start ad campaigns then.

Football is a national sport. What I mean by that, is people are fans of teams all over the country no matter where they live, not necessarily your local team. Baseball you are pretty much a fan of your local team. That's why although baseball has more fans than the NFL, The NFL does much better on TV. Take this World Series, for example, how many people outside of Boston or Colorado are really fans of either team, not many. So in Boston and Colorado the TV ratings are very high, but the rest of the county much less. Because of this, it's not worth it for an advertiser to spend million of dollars on a 30 second commercial when its will be mostly viewed in 2 markets. Where as the Superbowl, the fans of those teams are spread out throughout the country, so the TV ratings are more consistent throughout the country, and it's now worth it for an advertiser to spend the money.

2 me, aw8ng new ads during the World Series hasn't been a 4thought. The Super Bowl is I think, inarguably, the most viewed championship game or series when it comes to the NFL, MLB, NBA & NCAA. In fact, I think the World Series and the NBA Finals have had some rather modest r8ngs recently. Maybe you'd c new commercials when the fall season begins & viewers resume watching their favourite programs, but there ain't no argument that the Super Bowl is Madison Avenue's premier moment.
