I think it's because they can't tell the difference between a booty call and a relationship. Lust can feel so close to love that people mistake it for the real thing and base a relationship around it. I've been there, done that, got the t-shirt.

I also think that people commit themselves to relationships they aren't ready for. Too many people get married before they really know each other or themselves, and when they change (as people always do) they find that they know absolutely nothing about each other and what they do know, they don't like.

parents do a horrible job nowadays teaching their kids how to respect and care for their signicant other. especially, because they can not keep their own relationship(s) under control. no good role models.

plus, nowadays, everyone only cares about getting laid and making money.

Because it is easier to avoid a problem than to fix it, and it is more socially acceptable nowadays to leave a relationship-(divorce)

People used to settle and now people are pickier and more selective. Instead of working things out people give up and move on to something new.
