With Teeth or Year Zero

(this is from seeing the answers to ghurag2007's question)

It seems like we all agree that those two are the two worse, but which one is worse? and why?
I personally think With Teeth was worse, but it may simply be because I had high expectations and by the time Year Zero came out, I wasn't expecting anything.

You?

I like them both. I seem to be one of the very few people who can appreciate the fact that people grow and develop. A true artist cannot simply regurgitate the same thing ovewr and over...the bad ones do!
While With Teeth is almost pop in places it still has the forboding vibe that all of Trent's music has. Songs like You Know Who You Are and Only and Sunspots are brilliant pieces of music. The absolute best song is Right Where It Belongs.
Year Zero is absolutley stunning in my opinion. It is very ahead of its time and i think it is quite difficult to ingest on teh first listen because it is so dense. There are few "tunes" on there which makes it a hard record to listen to if you are someone who only "listens" instead of "hears". It is not a casual record, like all of his records and yes it is not The Downward Spiral but so what..? If he released the same record over and over it would become boring. You have to dig deeper with both albums and don't compare them to other records. I would say my favorite NIN record is The Fragile.

I think Year Zero is worse. While With Teeth isn't so great either, it does have some elements of Trent's earlier work... "Beside You In Time" has it good parts, and there's a couple other tracks I like a lot. I'm hoping Trent doesn't keep going on this downward spiral (no pun intended) with his albums, he can do much better than these last two. They just don't compare to his previous work.

Joe - You bring up a good point, people do change... I just don't like this particular path that Trent has taken with his last two albums. When The Fragile first came out, I recall a lot of reviews and fans commenting on the big change in his music... difference then was it was a good refreshing change. This time, I don't think so... but I still look forward to future albums from Trent.

This is very difficult to say because I truly believe both of these albums are like twins. They both came from practically identical recording sessions. Proof of this is in the remarkable similarity between songs Survivalism and The Hand That Feeds. Both albums are preoccupied with politics. I thought they both were almost equally as disappointing but if pressed to pick the worse one, I'll say Year Zero. It seems like Trent picked slightly better songs for With Teeth.

I'm probably the biggest Nine Inch Nails fan out there. And I could never choose between the two because the two albums are two very different aspects of Reznors personality,
it sounds like He was challenged with something inspiring while creating both albums,His musical genius complimented His Inspiration. There two totally different bodies of work so I can not decide.
I like how Joe described it.
Thanks shout out to LovnRockts for starring this question for me.

Year Zero

Year Zero..because it is just to techno-ish..and not typical industrial grinding Trent Reznor material...it also just seems kind of thrown together at the last minute. NIN is a band that records their best material over 3-4 year spans.

Pretty Hate Machine=NIN at their best!!

I listen to Year Zero more. I feel it's a more 'together' album that I can listen to straight through. I find I skip through With Teeth a lot.

Year Zero was the worst. At least With Teeth has ONE good song.

There were 2 lately? I thought there was only that one. I wasn't too crazy with The Fragile either. God, they both sound like the same boring shite! I remember a time when Trent was cool and made industrial music and was going to release a Coil album and had Squarepusher on his label. So sad, his downward spiral into crap.

Yeah I like With Teeth better, a lot better... but the best is either Pretty Hate Machine or The Fragile.
