im a dual-booter (i have two operating systems on one pc, windows XP home and ubuntu linux gutsy gibbon) and the reason i dont just format this whole thing is that most software comes in a package that only windows can read (exe) and while wine can run some of it, you try running the sims 2 under wine on a pentum 3 (hahahaha you cant!) also even tho my game second life has a linux package its still impossible to run it with voice under linux becouse the software to do so doesnt exist.
however that doesnt give windows an excuse for UTP packets that can crash your system instantly (!!!!) but the fact is that in about 10-20 years it wont be pheaseable to have an operating system on every pc that cousts money becouse by then there will be at least two in each room shure 1 or 2 could run windows or mac os x but the rest need another OS like linux or BSD becouse the coust would be too great.
and about you saying OS X is a good alternitive... i would take virouses any day over random crashing and freeze ups cause mac os is just as crashy or worse than windows (btw if you use a 3ed party program like xsetup then you can tweak more windows settings for less crashes :D)
also windows comes preinstalled on most factory build machines and most pepole arent smart or motavated to install another (otherwise all pcs and macs would be using linux) but if everyone was useing linux then there would be more than 20 linux virouses (there are just 20 for linux there are more for mac os than linux) also how in the world did you get on a website without starting windows linux BSD or mac os? omg your a cyborg arent you O_O (jk lol)

Why do most people have Windows? 1) Because Apple gave up try to compete as an OS for the masses in the 90s, dropping from a 20% market share in the late 80s down to a 2% share in the late 90s, and has only recently scraped back to a 6% market share. 2) Because Linux, while it's reliable, is still less user friendly than Windows, has many different versions, causing confusion as to what to choose, and is still considered more for servers than for desktops due to its UNIX roots.

I'm for Linux! Especially after reading what it does, next to all the other OS'es,(especially refering to Ubuntu+Beryl). I was a Windows user for years. Everything had Windows on it, it seemed, everything was compatible with Windows, written for Windows. Windows is user friendly,(okay, was), in that, so much can be done automatically. This of course leads to 'bloating,' where files are shared, and too much information is crowded on a Windows OS. What's the leading OS? Windows! What are game manufacturer's going to produce their games to run on? Windows! Will Mac, and Linux ever out-sell Windows? Maybe, the gap is growing closer. Will Linux distro's in particular? Probably not, Linux distro's are free,(except for the few money hungry, or distributor's who are trying to make it easier to use a Linux distro, haven't figured out which! Hmmmmm!), so they're not advertised. Linux distro's are different than Windows, so you have to start all over, and they require a bit of thinking. Windows is easier. Linux distro's have a kernal like Windows, but no registry. Result? No slowing down over time, no corrupted registry files, no 'bloating' from shared files, and on. People still use Windows, and will continue to do so, because they're used to it, know how to get around, and can do a little maintenance/service on it, without too much effort. I say.....COOL! Let the malware people do their thing with Windows, and leave us Linux distro people alone. Check out Windows Aero vs Ubuntu+Beryl in YouTube.

I have Windows because it is the best. Mac is nice, but only about 7% of computer users have it, Mac computers have fewer security features/problems....simply because theres fewer viruses written for Mac OS. Linux is plagued by poor driver support and horrible compatibility issues....but hey....its free. Think its hard to make sure that your new video card works for Vista, or Mac? You have NO idea what Linux users are stuck with. Did I mention that its free?
Just my opinion.....bring on the firestorm.

Windows is the most popular operating system, but I have been working with Macs in various places. Probably because it is the most recognized system, it is easy to use because one is always near us. At first, I thought, " How do you _____ on a Mac?" Now, it is easy because I've worked with it. Also, most applications are for Windows, so most people need to have Windows to run them(not including the Windows on a Mac thing). It's just too popular...
