You have to be crazy not to love hockey. Its fast, Its "the coolest game on ice" because we have more skills than any other athletes, because your team becomes your family, Love it for the crazy roadtrips, and the drunken fans, cheering for the home team, sitting on the edge of your seat for a shootout. For the fights, the hard hits, and the amazing saves. Hockey is murder on ice. Its the only sport where a guy with no teeth will give a huge grin after scoring a goal and all the girls go weak. The trophy is amazing, the jerseys rock. "I went to a fight the other night and a hockey game broke out". Half the game is mental and the other half is being mental. And because baseball players, soccer players, football players, tennis players, golfers and bowlers only know how to play with BALLS. =]

I don't know really. I guess when I immigrated to Canada I was so young that hockey was the first sport that I played and watched with my friends. The sound of the slapshots, the feel of the ball/puck going in the net, the different plays and (for the goalies) being able to make some cool saves gets all the adrenalin going for me. And then after a long game after school, my friends and I would end it with a glass of water and a round of N64 - Goldeneye (which I would always lose in). Nowadays, hockey's a way for me to get together with friends and watch, and play with some community kids and be a mentor in someway. I guess that's why I like hockey. It's a good means for building community and fun.

Hockey is the only sport out of the four majors that has stayed relatively true to its roots. Baseball added the dreaded DH, which enabled "1/2 a player" to become a gazilllionaire. Basketball has become nothing but a slam dunk contest. Football has put in so many rules to protect the QB's that you might as well have them wear red vests during games and put flags on their hips. While hockey has undergone periods of adjustments, the basic nature of the game remains the same. You have to be fast, skilled , tough, great reflexes, and intelligent. Even enforcer types still have to be able to skate, pass, and shoot occasionally. There is no "halfway" in hockey.
Edit:Thanks, Puck!!

I'll give you five:
1- Fast paced, exciting, and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
2- Canada rarely gives us sports that don't kick ***.
3- Only the truly talented can excel- Its one thing to sprint down a field with a football. Its another thing to sprint down the ice deeking a puck.
4- Hockey is the underdog sport. The players are never front page stories and the games never trample other sports in the headlines.
5- We're not flashy- Our players aren't as highly paid as sports like baseball, but we don't care. Our players may be attractive, but we don't make boytoy icons out of them (except for like, Sidney Crosby), and we may have the best sport around, but we don't need it to be the most popular. As long as we have our hockey, us fans will be happy, flashy commercials and advertisments be damned.

A full 60 minutes of fast paced, hard hitting action. Goals, hits, saves and fights. Played the game for 34 years and no other sport ever gave me the same rush and I've played quite a few.
Nice answer laying low.

Because you don't find overweight OLD FAT dudes that can hit a ball but can't run the bases; because you don't see a flag on every play and players don't typically dive before someone comes near them...because hockey actually takes a lot of skill, you've gotta know how to skate and skate well, stand up and take a hit, give a hit, know how to throw a punch, know how to pass and catch a puck and either shoot and score or make the save!!! It has something for everyone.

Because it's played at a fast pace and it's a thrill to watch your team score. Plus, the Stanley Cup is the coolest trophy ever.

"What about the game makes you love it so much?" Asked over 3 months ago by Too Many Years Without the Cup. My answer is the same. My preference for living horses is the same as well.
