I have thought the same thing and the only way I see Ron Paul winning is if the Republican primary gets so split between the top 4 front runners that everyone shares less than 20% of the vote and Paul squeezes it out.
In order to have massive change as a result, the Republican party would have to realize that even if they disagree with Paul, he would be far superior to anyone the Dems put up and thus they get fully behind him and follow suit in congress.
Do I think this is likely? No, but that is the only way I see of having Paul win and any of his policy changes take place.

Quite honestly, i think a lot o fthem do.
Unfortunately, libertarianism (which as a philosophy has a lot of value) has never gone beyond the "this is the way things should be" idealism and begun to address the nitty-gritty of how things are and how--in practice--to make them better.
And Ron Paul's platformreflects that. He callls for things like abolishing the Dept. of Education. Now--here's the problem: how do you address the problems? For example, what do you do about schools that are underfunded in inner cities--where the money to fx the system simply isn't there without outside help?
That's the crux of the libertarian problem. Just how do you apply those fine principles to real problems in realistic ways? Ron Paul doesn't have answers--he has ideals. I do respect him--I think he's probably the only candidate in either party who's really honest. But ideals without concrete ideas that can work are useless.

you know why that is a empty argument , what are they going along with now , what have they gone along with then, they both have been in power and just taking turns and neither have done a damn thing.
if Ron Paul Gets 10% of what he wants , he will be just as sucseful as any of the other presidents in the last 47 years.
look how much bush has done and the Dem's hated him, look how much Clinton has done and the republicans hated him.
as president he Ron Paul leads and guides and tries to persuade the congress. if you want him to be able to do something , don't vote republican or Democrat in to the house or the senate, vote 3rd party they would be a little more willing to help the country. or vote for anyone who is not a incumbent if you are so stuck on the R & D party, at lest it will take the lobbists a couple of weeks to corupt your beloved republicans and demacrats if they are new.
so i ask how much has the demacrats and republicans done in the last 50 years other than sell them selfs to influence peddlers

Ron Paul has stayed outside of the mainstream of the Congress. While this is appropriate given his beliefs it is unlikely to stand him in good stead with Congress if he was to win the Presidency. As a result, a Ron Paul Presidency would be marked by massive inaction from both the administrative and legislative branches.

A Ron Paul win would send the clearest message to date to the US Congress that people are simply fed up with the same crap coming out of these demigods !!
They would HAVE to sit up and take notice that it is simply NOT "business as usual" anymore within the hallways of that once so grand institution and that the next step will be to "clear the decks" in THAT place unless people are listened to again -- and their wishes carried out !!
It is LONG OVERDUE that radical change take place within this country !! The extremely wealthy and extreme elite too long have lorded their power in the name of a free and democratic society !! And, for the first time in many many years --- one comes that speaks with the voice of the Forefathers ---- with clear and precise words coming directly FROM the Constitution !! Time for everyone of these power crazy little snipes to take a long hard look at the FACT that the American people have finally had their fill !!!
Ron Paul ---as Independant ---- 2008 !!!!!!!!!!

A transvestite would never get elected - too scandalous. Nobody would ever vote for Ru Paul. Not going to pull off a win.

Nope, but the veto is worth something, and his winning would sure as hell shake them up, don't you think?
I can just imagine their reaction:
"OH, CRAP!"
Delightful.
