I don't know how i got into this Calc 2 class. I took a multiple choice placement test, and some how, i scored high enough to get into that class.

Is there a major difference between Calculus 2 and Calculus 1? Can i learn the material covered in Calc 1 in Calc 2?

what were you thinking? calc 2 is all about further techniques of integration, vector and stuff, you definitely have to go to calc 1 first before going to second. calc 1 is about limits, differentiation and integration which is really really important in calc 2

Generally, most students should go through Calculus 1 before taking Calculus 2. However, I suggest you take a look at the curriculum for Calculus 1 and see if the concepts are easy enough for you to understand. That will give you a better perspective.

Obviously, if the concepts involved in Calc 1 are familiar to you, and you can do the exercises to their full extent, then you don't need to take it, saving yourself a term.

I think you should take Calc 1 it usually covers limits and derivates or differentiation, without these skills you will be lost when it comes to integrals which is the main topic of Calc 2.

The same thing happened to me. I took precal and did well enough to score high on the entrance exam, so they put me in Calc 2. I talked to the teacher, and the put me in Calc 1 instead. I'm glad I did that, but its up to you. Good luck!

you should take calculus 1 in order to understand calculus 2, unless you want to take a risk or study calculus 1 by yourself.

Definitely take calc1. If you miss any of the fundamentals, you will have problems later one. Calculus is all about building on what you have learned. If you miss the fundamentals, you will be unable to do things later on. All of the old stuff comes back to haunt you...

Here are my thoughts,

To my knowledge, pre calculus embodies trigonometry, polar coordinates, and simple algebraic manipulations.

Calculus is a totally different animal, and i'd suggest that you part one before part two.

If you don’t know how to take derivatives and integrals, you will fail! I would not suggest this if you don’t know cal 1. You better know trig well too.
