you'd have to be crazy to say it's not alex rodriguez. in the last 5 years he's been by far the most dominant player.
in the NL, i'd have to say albert. he only lost minimal playing time due to injury, and if he wasn't in the same league as barry, he'd have another MVP too.
matt holliday is the next big thing though. every year he's been playing, he's increased his avg, HR, RBI, Slugging and OBP, every year. he's still a few years away from peaking too.

Albert Pujols-Cardinals,exceptional player with a few flaws
Big Papi-Red sox-tremendous power....needs defense
A-rod-Yankees-good power,has defense
Johan Santana-K master with good pitching
